Glenn Close enlivens "Albert Nobbs"

Oh my god, yes.
Yes. Glenn Close is Albert Nobbs, a woman turned hotel butler living in socially repressive 19th century Dublin. The eponymous passion project of Close, who portrayed him on the stage in 1982, goes like this (via Geektyrant):
19th century Ireland: a woman with no husband or family and without work would face a bleak life of poverty and loneliness. Albert, a shy butler who keeps himself to himself, has been hiding a deep secret for years – ‘he’ is a woman who has had to dress and behave as a man all her life in order to escape this fate. When handsome painter Hubert Page arrives at the hotel, Albert is inspired to try and escape the false life she has created for herself. She gathers her nerves to court beautiful, saucy young maid Helen [Mia Wasikowska, Alice in Wonderland] in whom she thinks she’s found a soul-mate – but Helen’s eye is on a new arrival: handsome, bad-boy Joe, the new handy-man! As Albert dares to hope that she might one day live a normal life, we catch a glimpse of a free-spirited woman who is caught in the wrong time… This humorous but ultimately poignant ensemble story about life ‘below-stairs’ is nothing less than Gosford Park meets Boys Don’t Cry.

Did you just wet your pants a little? 'Cuz, not going to lie, I did.

C'mon, it's Glenn Close! A girl can hardly be blamed, just look at her--she's positively dapper! (FYI, I'm pretty gleeful that I even got to use 'dapper' without being British.) And not to belabor the obvious--who am I kidding? Of course, I do--but she woos the lovely Mia, who's looking pretty dapper here herself:

By the way, this is one of the few pics I could find of her without totally skeeving myself out. There's a 5 3 year interim from when a starlet appears in a teen mag (TEEN Vogue) and when I can make appreciative, lewd remarks without purifying myself through self-flagellation afterwards.

But that's just me and my silly ethical code. As for a 'butch' Close courting Mia? Have I died and gone to heaven?

As usual, Close's performance is immaculate. Watch these clips and judge for yourself. (Honestly, is she even human at this point?) In the second one, it appears she's on a date with Helen, and look what an adorable butch Close makes.

Awww, defending her woman/man. That's right, Mia, tell the waitress where she can stick her chocolate

Albert Nobbs is currently making the rounds in the film festival circuit, and reviews are positive with effusive praise for Close's portrayal. Even Oscar buzz, which would make this her SIXTH nomination, no win yet.

Well, goddarnit, what are they waiting for? Serve the woman her damn EGOT on a silver platter already.

I, for one, can't wait to see this film, and for Close to lap up her praises like an entitled cat.
